MakerNeighbor
About us
The person with the tool you need is usually closer than you think. You just have no way of knowing who they are.
Somebody within a mile of you owns a 3D printer that sits idle most of the week. Somebody else has a sewing machine, or a lathe, or twenty years of knowing why your joint keeps splitting. None of you have any way to find each other, so the printer stays idle and the part gets ordered from a factory on the other side of the world.
A map of the makers near you, and enough of a feed and calendar to turn that into someone actually knocking on a door. It is deliberately small in scope: find each other, talk, meet up. There is no marketplace and no algorithm deciding what you see.
A map of where people live is a genuinely risky thing to build, and the version that ships fastest is the one that gets someone hurt. So saved exact coordinates stay private, members appear only as the fixed map cell their home falls in, and discovery returns only broad ranges measured to that cell. That is written up in Safety & privacy.
MakerNeighbor is made by Anderson IdeaWorks, LLC — currently one person. That means slower replies than a company with a support team, and it also means the person who answers your message is the person who can fix the thing you are writing about.
