What we collect, why we collect it, and how to get rid of it.

What we collect

Your email address, so you can sign in. Whatever you choose to put on your profile — name, photos, tools, skills, links. Your street address, if you give us one. And the things you create here: posts, events, RSVPs, connection requests and messages.

We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics, so there is no profile of you being assembled in the background.

Your address specifically

When you press Find address, our server sends the complete address to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, with Geoapify as a fallback if the lookup fails or finds no suitable result. Your browser shows the standardized result for you to review and confirm. Saving the confirmed location stores its address and coordinates for community placement. Discovery uses your published map area and broad distance ranges. You can choose a neighborhood center instead of the map cell containing your home.

The explanation of address lookup and map areas is in Safety & privacy.

Who else sees it

Who can see your profile and map presence depends on the visibility tier you choose: Discoverable is public, Limited shows only a non-identifying pin like "MakerNeighbor nearby · CNC", and Hidden shows nothing publicly. Posts and events are labeled with the neighborhood they belong to and are visible according to that neighborhood's or event's own visibility.

We use Supabase to host the database and authentication, and OpenStreetMap Nominatim (with Geoapify as a fallback) to standardize and geocode the complete address after you explicitly request a lookup. Address-lookup requests contain the entered address and may include your saved town and state as context; they do not include your profile name or account email. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

How long we keep it

Until you delete it. Removing your profile removes your posts, events, photos and messages with it. Deletion is immediate and not recoverable, so export anything you want to keep first.

Your rights

You can see everything on your profile, correct it, or delete the account outright from your profile page. For a copy of your data in a portable form, or any other request, contact us.

Children

MakerNeighbor is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
